ChatBrief ("we", "our", or "the app") is a WhatsApp chat summarization tool that helps you digest group and personal conversations quickly. This Privacy Policy explains what data we access, how it is used, and your rights as a user.
When a summary is generated, the relevant chat messages are sent to:
Free-trial and standard server-plan usage may be served using Google's free-tier API, for which Google's terms permit use of prompt/response data to improve their products. Paid subscription plans and BYOK with your own paid-tier key are served through Google's paid tier, which Google does not use to train its models. We do not control how Google processes data once received, and recommend reviewing its policies directly. Message content is sent only at the moment of summarization and is not stored by us after the request completes.
Because group chats include messages from people other than you, please only add groups where you're a legitimate participant and be mindful of the expectations of other members — they have not individually consented to AI processing of their messages.
We use the following Firebase services (operated by Google LLC) to improve app stability and understand usage patterns:
These services are subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
ChatBrief uses Supabase for backend services (device/subscription management and routing AI summarization requests through our server-side key pool). Supabase is subject to its own Privacy Policy. We do not store your chat content on Supabase beyond the brief moment a summarization request is in transit — server logs record only message counts, device identifiers, and error codes, never message text.
If you choose to subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by Razorpay. We store your plan type and subscription status; we do not store your card or payment instrument details — those are handled entirely by Razorpay, subject to its own Privacy Policy.
Messages, summaries, and preferences are stored locally on your device and remain under your control. You can clear all app data at any time via Settings → Delete All Data, or via Android Settings → Apps → ChatBrief → Clear Data. We do not retain your chat content on our servers beyond the duration of a single summarization request.
ChatBrief is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
API keys are stored using Android's encrypted DataStore. Messages and summaries are stored in a SQLCipher-encrypted local database. We apply reasonable technical measures to protect your data, though no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
